Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö offer different taxi markets. Here is what the conditions look like in each city.
Stockholm
Stockholm is Sweden's largest taxi market with the highest demand, the most airport taxi traffic via Arlanda and Bromma, but also the toughest competition and the most congestion. There are the most trips to drive here, while travel times are affected by traffic and the congestion charge. For many new drivers it is the market that offers the most work opportunities.
Gothenburg
Gothenburg is a smaller but stable market with Landvetter as an important airport and large trade fairs and events that create peaks in demand. Congestion is lower than in Stockholm and the city has a congestion charge at certain times. Port and event traffic mean demand can vary clearly across the week.
Malmö
Malmö is shaped by its closeness to the Öresund and Copenhagen with Kastrup, which brings cross-border trips and commuting. The market is growing but smaller than Stockholm's, and part of the traffic ties in with rail and air connections across the strait. The region is interesting for those who like an international feel to the work.
Where does it pay off to start?
There is no guarantee that a particular city gives the highest income, because it depends on the employer, the pay model and how much you drive. Generally, larger cities give more trips but also more competition. Weigh the number of available shifts, travel times and living costs against each other when you choose where to start driving.
